Why do I like the 427 Shelby Cobra?
Why do I like the 427 Shelby Cobra? It isn’t because of the looks, although I have to admit the Shelby Cobra is one of the best looking cars ever. Anyone looking at the car could easily fall in love with those sleek, yet muscular curves. It isn’t because of the powerful 427 cubic inch engine. No, the reason that I like the 427 Shelby Cobra is somewhat of an unusual reason. The reason is that Bill Cosby talked about it in his routine “200 MPH”.
When I was in high school, I stumbled upon a cache of my dad’s old records. One of them was “200 MPH”. I listened to that album, and I was rolling on the floor laughing the entire time. Bill Cosby talks about how he drove a sporty European car, when he was confronted by Caroll Shelby, telling him that he should be driving an American car. Cosby went on to explain to Shelby that he had to drive a European car, because they were faster than American cars. Shelby then offers to build Bill Cosby a 427 Shelby Cobra, teling him that “It’ll do… over 200 MPH.”
Well, the entire routine is simply hilarious, especially Cosby’s description of the 427 Shelby Cobra once he gets it, and his disastrous attempt to drive it.
I have to admit that I love the looks of the Cobra, and I love the large engine, and the power within. The main reason, however, that I like the 427 Shelby Cobra is because of a very funny comedy routine.
